Media Release

School District 10

Derek O’Brien, Superintendent

Website Update – May 2012

We are in the last two months of this school year with many exciting opportunities ahead of us.   This is also an extremely busy and important time in the school year.

The Provincial initiative to restructure school districts is public.  School District 10 will become part of Anglophone South School District, amalgamating with School Districts 6 and 8.    Zoë Watson will be our Superintendent and the Office of the Superintendent will be located in Saint John.  We are not entirely clear what this will look like for our schools in Charlotte County, but we do know that an Educational Centre with support services for schools will be located in St. Stephen.

During the transition, we will continue to do what we do best.  May and June are as important to student learning as every other month.  Our time to prepare for final school-based, district, and provincial assessments is limited.  The three things that remain of utmost importance now more than ever are healthy eating, adequate rest, and attendance.   Eating well and having a good night’s sleep will prepare every child to meet the challenges of the day at school.  Regular attendance will make sure that students have every opportunity to master the curriculum.  We aspire to be a world-class learning community and in order to achieve this we must all be prepared and make our best effort.

We are heading into an exciting time of year.  Graduation is on the minds of our high school communities.  Special ceremonies for students finishing at schools and year-end activities are on the minds of our elementary and middle level communities.  Amidst this excitement, we cannot ever lose sight of making the most of the academic time that we have left for students.  There is still a lot of work ahead of us and we are committed to providing every student opportunities to learn and to demonstrate their learning.

Take advantage of the excitement throughout our schools this time of year and use it to motivate everyone in our school communities to strive for the world-class learning environment that we deserve.

School District 10 comprises 16 schools and approximately 4 000 students in Charlotte County.

Educate, motivate, and empower!
