MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Back Bay Elementary School is to provide an encouraging environment by presenting challenging opportunities that will inspire our children to develop to their fullest potential physically, culturally, socially, and intellectually.

GOALS
By the end of grade 5 all students will be reading independently, all students will achieve an “Acceptable” rating in the Provincial Mathematics Assessment, and all students will be writing at an “Acceptable” level.            Ballfield will be officially opened and in use in the late spring of 2007.

INITIATIVES/STRATEGIES

Students in K-5 will participate in multi-age literacy groups

Initiate multi-age math program K-2

Students in grade 5 will participate in Intensive French Pilot

Afternoon program for grades 3-5 Mental Math

Use of mimeo and smart board technology in all classes where appropriate

Grade 5 enriched social studies through technology

  • Harbour Seal Citizenship Awards Program continues to be a success with a high level of award granting to students at all grade levels

  • Home & School support of fall & winter field trip programs including King’s Landing and Ross Memorial Library, Ross Memorial Museum Christmas Presentations and Fairmont Algonquin decoration tour and lunch in St Andrews
  • Home & School support of June field trips including Zoo & Rockwood Park, Greene’s Point Lighthouse and Shoreline Scavenger Hunt, Track & Field and Activity Day, and Annual New River Beach Family Picnic
  • Shared Artists in Schools Programs with Deer Island & Pennfield schools
  • Completion of initial field preparation, grading, ditching, and fencing of ballfield

 

Student Recognition at Back Bay Elementary

  • Harbour Seal Citizenship Award

Awarded monthly with certificate to students who perform unsolicited good deeds at school.

One boy and one girl recipient is randomly chosen from those awarded to receive a book of their choice.

Thank you for helping to make our school a better place to work, learn and grow. Courtesy of your teachers and staff.”

 

  • Participation certificates for after school cross country running

  • Copper Cup Ball Hockey

Awarded to team members of winning team in playoffs.

Participation awards to all other players.

 

Noon hour intramural program.

 

  • Basketball participation certificates for after school basketball.

 

  • Various certificate and book awards for participation in Terry Fox, Jump Rope for Heart, Winter Carnival, Math, French & Literacy initiatives, etc.

 

  • Announcements and recognition at assemblies of any special awards or feats accomplished by students in community activities. Newspaper clippings and photos also posted on bulletin board in front of the office.

 

  • Certificates at end of year for best mark in each subject plus best overall average in each class and most improved or exceptional improvement. All students receive something like outstanding attendance, hard worker, etc.

 

  • Ï survived Mr. Magnusson certificate to Grade 5 each year.

 

  • Year End New River Family Picnic all students and families including pre-K. Many graduates participate in this event.
