The Healthy Learners Program encourages a comprehensive approach to health promotion and illness/injury prevention. This approach to school health includes:

  • A health-minded school administration

  • A holistic view of health

  • A safe and healthy learning environment

  • Community participation and collaboration

  • Meaningful student involvement

  • Quality health instruction

  • Access to current, quality health resources

  • Inclusive school health programs and services

  • A spirit of lifelong learning

  • Regular evaluation

Children can have other problems that we often do not associate with learning, but will adversely affect not only a child’s health, but his or her ability to learn. These problems can include inactivity, poor nutrition, domestic violence, alcoholism, substance abuse, and depression.

Early intervention and prevention is the key. The Healthy Learners Program is designed to help children in Kindergarten through Grade 5 to grow into healthy and productive adults by focusing on the physical, emotional, social, and educational development of children. This program works in partnership with parents, teachers and the community. The philosophy first and foremost is recognizing that health and learning go hand in hand.

Parents and educators have a great deal of influence on children.  To assist in promoting health, the resources and links in these pages will prove to be of great benefit.
