Human Resources

The Human Resources and Payroll branch provides comprehensive human resources and payroll services to all District 10 employees. This includes expertise in labour relations, contract administration, grievances, recruitment, staffing, employee training, advice on general human resource matters, payroll and benefit administration.

The Human Resources and Payroll team is made up of the following people:

Director of Finance & Administration (Human Resources) – Carl Carson

Responsibilities –

  • Oversee and direct recruitment and hiring
  • Interpret and administer all collective agreements.
  • Investigate and / or review complaints and concerns to facilitate equitable resolutions and avoid grievances.
  • Investigate Human Rights complaints and complaints to the Ombudsman.
  • Ensure development of performance evaluation system.
  • Collaborate and assess training needs of district and develop a strategic plan
  • Reclassify positions.

Human Resources Officer – Susan Moffatt

Responsibilities –

  • Participate in the recruitment process for permanent positions.
  • Coordination of casual person recruitment process.
  • Ensure efficiency of the payroll and benefits functions.
  • Monitor attendance for teaching and non-teaching employees
  • Reply to requests for retirement planning information and document processing.
  • Process Worker’s Compensation claims
  • Administer various programs IE: Employee & Family Assistance Program, Work-time Flexibility Program, Equal Employment Opportunity Program, Kindergarten Support Program.
  • Assist in investigations re: Harassment in the Workplace, Policy 701, general investigations.
  • Assist in facilitating training programs.
  • Collective Agreement interpretations.

Administrative Assistant / Payroll Clerk – Jane McShane

Responsibilities –

  • Competition application processing – Support & Teaching staff
  • Criminal record checks
  • Substitute teachers web – site
  • Trial & probationary periods for support staff (CUPE 1253 & 2745)
  • Casual / replacement lists for support staff (Teachers’ Assistant, Library Assistant, School Secretary)
  • General Human Resources Information
  • Casual Staff Payroll
  • Absenteeism Analysis

Payroll Clerk - Gail Leavitt

Responsibilities-

  • Permanent Staff Payroll.
  • Absenteeism
  • Assist in facilitating training programs.
  • Other related Payroll duties.
