MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Lawrence Station Elementary School is: At Lawrence Station School we believe that all students can learn. It is the responsibility of the school to create an inviting caring, climate where learning can take place. We believe that children learn at different rates and have different needs. To this end, we will work to supply each child with a variety of learning opportunities. We also believe that shared responsibility and learning should be promoted as life long endeavours.
GOALS
To provide a safe, warm and caring environment.
To ensure that all students acquire the skills and knowledge needed to make them life long learners.
To continue to develop Lawrence Station Elementary School as an effective and efficient learning community.
To continue to focus on student writing as a priority improvement area.
To continue the development of a professional development program in Mathematics and support the Guided Math model of instruction in the classroom.
To support the Code of Conduct.
INITIATIVES/STRATEGIES
- Lawrence Station is continuing to become a strong and effective Professional Learning Community.
- The implementation of flexible grouping in Language Arts and Math meets the student academic needs at their learning levels and allows for fluid movement as progress is made.
- School-wide rotation days allow multi-aged groups to experience a variety of learning activities in a particular subject such as Science, Literacy or Heritage. The also encourage a broader sense of community with older students helping younger ones achieve their goals.
- Lunch with the Principal and Computer Club are successful positive reward initiatives.
- Student Galleries: Two large bulletin boards, complete with lights, in the upstairs hallway, display the exemplary work of our students.
- Essential Learnings have been developed in Language Arts and Math for each grade level. These clearly communicate to all members of our professional learning community, the academic expectations for our students.
- Pyramids of Intervention have been established to provide a framework from which to approach students who require extra assistance.
- A comprehensive parent guide is being developed to encompass the Essential Learnings and the Pyramid of Intervention.
- Assessment information is being systematically reviewed to determine best practices strategies for the classroom.
- The Intensive Core French Program has been implemented at the Grade 4/5 level.
- Guided Math has been initiated as a teaching strategy.
