MISSION STATEMENT
The teachers of St. Stephen Elementary School believe that our mission is to encourage, enrich and celebrate the growth of each person in our school community. We recognize the individual strengths and the diversity of each member of our school community and we are committed to develop the whole person academically, physically, socially and emotionally in a supportive, positive learning environment on the journey to become lifelong learners.

GOALS
Literacy – To improve student performance in reading and writing as measured by performance on school, district and provincial assessments.
Mathematics – To improve student performance in number and operations as measured by school, district and provincial assessments.
To make students feel that they are connected and contributing to our school, and capable of achieving as measured by student and parent perception surveys.
To improve the positive learning environment at our school as measured by student, parent and teacher perception surveys and by the data collected for positive and negative behaviour referrals. To increase the use of technology to support learning in the classrooms.

INITIATIVES/STRATEGIES
Continue staff development in teaming and collaboration.
Examine “Classroom Instruction that Works” (Marzano, 2001), continue Peer Observation model and continue Team Learning Time.
Reinforce Positive Learning Environment Policy (Three B’s), implement positive reinforcement strategies, and implement bullying component.
Provide enrichment to “gifted” students and enrichment clusters to all students.

SPECIAL PROJECTS
Science Fair
Balanced Literacy Approach K-5
A+ - An intervention / enrichment block for students Grades 3 – 5.
Merchants of Hope - A teacher mentoring project to provide students who may be at risk with a positive adult connection in the school.
Principal's Advisory Council - A group of students Grades 2 – 5 chosen by their homeroom teachers to advise the Principal and Vice Principal on school improvement.
